Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine commemorated 15 years of community service through the Bridging the Gaps program Thursday, Aug. 27, 2010, as 25 second-year medical students reflected on their experiences during the program's annual poster presentation. Students later showcased individual posters that compiled seven-weeks of service at 19 Erie area sites.

During the seven-week internship, second-year medical student Jordan Balencic taught children about nutrition and fitness through the St. Vincent Health System Recharge! program, which is designed to combat childhood obesity. Balencic said he learned that incorporating personal stories into his lessons allowed him to better connect with his audience.

This year, the Bridging the Gaps program boasted its largest group of interns to date with a total of 25 students.
