(1-0-1) play fellow league newcomer, FC Reading Revolution (0-4-1), to a 2-2 draw. Despite playing their third game in as many days, Reading pressed the Blues the entire game, stymying Erie\'s potent offense.</p><br /><p>The Revolution opened the scoring with a controversial penalty decision by referee Dino Sorbara. Erie was called for a handball in the box, despite the ball bouncing off of an Erie player and was clearly unavoidable and unintentional. Reading playmaker, #13 Max Ferdinand, sent the penalty kick past Admirals S.C. goalkeeper, #0 Danny Mudd, to put the Revolution up 1-0 with less than two minutes to play in the first half. However, Erie stormed back and were awarded a penalty kick of their own less than a minute later when Reading goalkeeper, #00 Josh Pacella, fouled Erie in its box. #17 Billy Colton stepped up for the kick and the score was level at 1-1.</p><br /><p>Despite the windy conditions that played havoc with the ball, the Blues were producing chances but unable to convert. Erie Head Coach/Manager John Melody made three substitutions at halftime with hopes of producing goals. #10 and Erie standout, Afrim Latifi, and #25 James Livingston made thier season debuts in midfield and were joined by speedy playmaker, #20 Luke Holmes; however, Reading was the first to break the tie in the second half. At 58 minutes, #15 Gibrilla Conde sent a slow roller past a surprised Danny Mudd to lift the Revolution ahead of Admirals S.C. for a second time.</p><br /><p>The Blues continued to press, creating myriad scoring opportunities but each time were left empty-handed and frustrated. At 69 minutes, #10 Afrim Latifi sent a perfect ball across the field to defender, #27 Stephen Duggan, who sent a laser shot past Reading\'s Pacella to once again bring Erie even with Reading at 2-2. As time wound down, Erie became more and more determined to make it two consecutive wins. Luke Holmes scored what appeared to be the winning goal for Erie, but a controversial offside called denied him and Erie the score. Despite Reading GK, Josh Pacella facing shot after shot from Erie, with five players and the less than 2 feet away from him at one point, he slammed the door shut.</p><br /><p>Although FC Reading Revolution were heroic in play despite obvious fatigue from a grueling schedule, Erie Admirals S.C. missed the opportunity to go 2-0 and stay within reach of table leaders Buffalo City FC and Charm City FC.</p><br /><h3>Erie Admirals S.C. (9-0-1) informed the league that there is no rolling over with the club and that a national title is squarely in the frame as the Blues dismantled FC Reading Revolution (3-6-1) 4-0 on their home field. The club was informed Saturday morning that Charm City FC had forfeited their game, scheduled for Sunday, July 12, giving the Blues the points necessary to be named 2009 Keystone Divsion Champions in their inagural season ahead of regional rivals Buffalo City FC. Despite having already earned the title, the Admirals approached the game with Reading as if the title was still up for grabs.</p><br /><p>#17 Billy Colton opened the scoring on a penalty kick after #8 Ben Truax was taken down by a Revolution player inside the box in the 19th minute. #20 Luke Holmes, in his final game of the season, netted his second goal in as many games in the 30th minute on an assist from Colton. The second half ended with Erie Admirals S.C. up 2-0.</p><br /><p>The Blues began the second half a bit on the defensive as the Revolution\'s shot in the 52nd minute was blocked by #1 Greg Blum, only to deflect off of him and into the path of a Reading player. A quick thinking #15 Arash Fahandzeh kicked an apparent Reading goal away at the last second to maintain a 2-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, #20 Luke Holmes\' shot was blocked and once again, the Admirals were on the offense. In the 62nd minute #8 Ben Truax was provided a ball by #5 Alex Trujillo and slotted it home for Erie\'s third goal of the evening. Five minutes later second-half substitution #10 Afrim Latifi scored on an assist from #12 Neil Shaffer to see the scoreboard read 4-0 in favor of the Blues.</p><br /><p>Erie continued to press the action with #13 Cory Bachstein and #24 Evan &quot;Frenchy&quot; Chate seeing their shots blocked in the 79th and 81st minutes respectively. Chate sent one towards goal in the 85th minute only to see the ball go just wide. The Blues (5-0-1) handed Buffalo (5-2-0) their second loss in as many weeks to remain as the only unbeaten team in the Northeast and one of only two undefeated teams in the entire NPSL proving that their 1-0 win at Buffalo\'s home field was not a fluke. The series win not only sees the Admirals atop the Keystone Division, but establishes them as the team to beat in the second half of the season for the division crown.</p><br /><p>Despite heavy rains that soaked the pitch the previous evening and entire morning of the match, 250+ hardy supporters braved the weather to cheer on the Blues. Both Erie and Buffalo started brightly despite the soggy conditions but the Blues began to dictate action on both sides of the ball and after a strong shot by #25 James Livingston bounced off of Buffalo goalkeeper Nick Fetterman, #16 Jeremy Deighton slotted home his 5th goal of the season giving the Blues a 1-0 lead. Despite attempts to press the action, Admirals\' defenders #5 Alex Trujillo, #7 Eric Tattersall, #15 Arash Fahandezh and #27 Stephen Duggan repelled&nbsp;all Buffalo&nbsp;City FC advances. Erie, on the other hand, failed to take advantage of numerous opportunities, including #17 Billy Colton\'s shot that ricocheted off of the far post and a missed cross in front of the net. Undaunted, Colton continued to press with Erie holding its lead at the end of the first half.</p><br /><p>Admirals Manager/Head Coach John Melody made no changes to his starting XI at halftime and the Blues picked up exactly where they left off, controlling the ball on both ends of the pitch and preventing Buffalo from mounting any sort of tangible attack. Billy Colton continued pacing the offense with #20 Luke Holmes and #25 James Livingston&nbsp;commanding the midfield,&nbsp;feeding balls to forwards Colton, Deighton and #19 Dan &quot;Diggsy&quot; Howell while also preventing Buffalo from penetrating past the center circle.</p><br /><p>Although leading the match in play and on the scoreboard, the Blues wanted to kill any hope in Buffalo\'s leveling the score and in the 85th minute #10 Afrim Latifi, who came in for Jeremy Deighton, did just that by sealing the win for the Admirals as he deftly dribbled a Buffalo turnover into the box and shot it past Buffalo\'s keeper into the bottom right corner of the net. Erie keeper #0 Danny Mudd notched his third clean sheet of the season with 5 saves. Erie\'s dominance of Buffalo City F.C. was clear as they outshot their derby rival 22-9. (10-0-1)&nbsp;booked their place at the 2009 NPSL National Championship by defeating Atlantic Division Champion Boston Aztec (5-3-1)&nbsp;2-0 in a hard fought match. Before a sold-out crowd of over 500 enthusiastic supporters, the Blues extended their amazing inaugural season by wearing down a tough-nosed Aztec club.</p><br /><p>Although angry rain clouds threatened to open up at any moment, the weather held steady; however, a brisk wind made playing conditions difficult at times.&nbsp;The Aztec, who traveled with a small squad of 14, pushed the Blues and limited Erie\'s scoring chances. The Admirals, well-known for their aggressive and physical play, received as good as they gave and the score was knotted 0-0 at halftime as opportunities to score were few and far between.</p><br /><p>The second half began exactly as the first half ended with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. Playing in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 500 under sunny skies, the team was the better side from start to finish. His dominance in the box and on the pitch frustrated the Snow&rsquo;s defense throughout. The Blues, who are normally accustomed to setting the pace, caught themselves down a goal when the Stoners\' James Graf sent a ball into the bottom corner of the net just past the reach of Admirals goalkeeper #0 Danny Mudd 8 minutes into the game.</p><br /><p>The Stoners continued to look the sharper team, moving forward, attacking every ball and creating chances while also limiting Erie\'s opportunities. Manager/Head Coach of Erie Admirals S.C. Most recently, Melody was an assistant coach for two seasons at Gannon University and prior to his time at Gannon, he achieved success as the head coach at Mercyhurst College (1994-01), coaching both the women&rsquo;s and men&rsquo;s teams. <br /> <br /> Melody led the &lsquo;Hurst men&rsquo;s team to a 70-21-4 overall record, including a perfect 27-0 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches. He was a three-time GLIAC Men&rsquo;s Soccer Coach of the Year (1997, 1998, 1999) and earned Men&rsquo;s Central Region Coach of the Year accolades in 1998. The women&rsquo;s squad went 72-19-6 overall during his five seasons at the helm, including a 37-4-3 mark in conference play. Melody was named GLIAC Women&rsquo;s Soccer Coach of the Year twice (1998, 1999) and was selected Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year twice (1999, 2000). <br /> <br /> Melody is a 1990 graduate of Mercyhurst College where he was also a soccer standout.
