Burns, D.O., of Akron, Ohio, will receive its 2010 Resident Leadership Award.</p> <table width=\"200\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">     <tbody>         <tr>             <td><img src=\"http://www.mutualgravity.com/sf.php?fn=0_76_public_images/burnsalum.jpg\" alt=\"\" /></td>         </tr>         <tr>             <td><b><span style=\"font-size: smaller;\">Lauren Burns, DO, LECOM Bradenton Class of 2008.</span></b></td>         </tr>     </tbody> </table> <p>The Resident Leadership Award is given annually to recognize a second-year family medicine resident in Ohio who has provided leadership in OAFP; promoted family medicine; participated in recruiting; shown professionalism; completed community service; and exhibited research, teaching and leadership skills.<br /> <br /> A family medicine resident at Akron General Center for Family Medicine Residency Program in Akron, Burns completed medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Bradenton (FL) campus and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Med (Zoology) and Genetics (Botany/Microbiology) from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio. She was recently appointed chief resident at Akron General.<br /> <br /> Among her numerous leadership roles, Burns serves as a resident member on the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Commission on Continuing and Professional Development and its Subcommittee on Scientific Assembly. <br /> <br /> She also serves as resident Foundation trustee to Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, and was OAFP&rsquo;s 2009 alternate delegate to the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students. Her presentation at the 2010 OAFP Family Medicine Symposium on Research and Education won best oral education presentation.<br /> <br /> At Akron General Center for Family Medicine, Burns serves on the Quality Improvement Committee and Curriculum Committee.</p></div>';
